The 6th matchday took first Bundesliga promoted team ThSV Eisenach to Nuremberg in Franconia. HC Erlangen plays its home games in the Arena Nürnberger Versicherung. Lack of goal threat from the backcourt was crucial for the 23:28 (14:14) defeat. A strong defensive performance was not continued in the attack. “We tripped ourselves up. We were unable to take advantage of phases of superiority. Ultimately, our young team paid the price. The hosts scored a large number of their goals through counterattacks. Erlangen had significant problems in the positional attack,” stated ThSV coach Misha Kaufmann. His crew often creates their scoring chances from the circle. The home side were often only able to stop these attacks at the expense of penalty throws, which Ivan Snajder safely converted. Eisenach’s backcourt was repeatedly forced to throw from unfavorable positions. The outcome of the game was completely open until the 54th minute (24:22). Only in the final round did the Franks benefit from a large number of Eisenach mistakes and score a 5-goal victory, which did not reflect the course of the game. The most successful thrower for ThSV Eisenach was Ivan Snajder with 8 hits in front of 4,034 spectators.
The Eisenachers, starting with Matija Spikic in goal, started courageously. As part of his limited personnel options, ThSV coach Misha Kaufmann opted for a change in defense and attack. The second half of the game began with an unnecessary time penalty and three Eisenach ball losses, which the hosts took advantage of to take a 17:14 lead. The people of Wartburgstadt picked themselves up and found their way back. After the 17:17 (Willy Weyhrauch, 38th) it was a game of equals, the decision of which was only made in the final phase.
