“Thrown Money” – The New South Tyrolean Daily Newspaper

Bernhard Zimmerhofer

The country spends 400,000 euros on Autonomy Day. The STF believes that it would have been smarter to spend the money on social causes or on the victims of the storm.

Every 5th September since 2014, the “Day of Autonomy” is celebrated at the instigation of the state government.

This year no less than 400,000 euros in taxpayers’ money are to be made available for this project.

The Pusteria district spokesman for Süd-Tiroler Freiheit, Bernhard Zimmerhofer, calls on the state government, but also the entire population, not to look back constantly and to pay homage to a holy autonomy, but to deal with specific projects for the future of our country.

And precisely with those projects that were worked out in many hours of work in the so-called “Autonomy Convention” by citizens and representatives of the people, says Zimmerhofer.

The STF man continues:

“These 400,000 euros in taxpayers’ money should instead be better used for cases of social hardship, for example in connection with the current severe weather disasters or the corona measures introduced.”

To come to terms with and narrate the history of the country and its autonomy, the South Tyrolean Freedom Group has already made a clever and well-thought-out alternative several times in the past, namely the huge and easily accessible area of the Franzensfeste fortress as a whole Tyrolean museum to set up for contemporary history, says Zimmerhofer. “All three parts of the European region of Tyrol could participate in the project. Such a structure would certainly be more effective in advertising and more cost-effective than organizing a separate, costly propaganda event every year. “
