This exhibition features the work of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz, a survivor from Poland who, at the age of 50, began creating works of art on fabric to tell her story. Trained as a dressmaker but with no training in art, she created a collection of 36 fabric photos with strong, vivid colors and impressive details with a sense of folk-like realism. The meticulously embroidered words beneath the photos offer a story.
These works along with a video by Esther Krinitz and her sister Mania will be on display.
This exhibition travels courtesy of Art and Remembrance, a nonprofit organization founded in 2003 by Bernice Steinhardt and Helene McQuade, daughters of Esther Krinitz. This exhibition is sponsored by the Houston Endowment, Inc., Quanex Foundation, and The Samuels Foundation, with special thanks to Continental Airlines, official airline of the Houston Holocaust Museum.
