It was about jerseys and shoes from celebrities like Olivier Giroud, David Luiz or Alisson Becker: Various sporting goods were auctioned at an online gala. All proceeds went to organizations that work for persecuted Christians.

The French professional footballer Olivier Giroud has already commented on the situation of persecuted Christians (Livenet reported). Now the convinced Christian has started a special campaign: Together with athletes like David Luiz (Brazilian footballer at Arsenal FC), Alisson Becker (Brazilian goalkeeper at Liverpool FC), Kevin Durant (American basketball player) and others, they collected donations for the persecuted Christians worldwide – because “260 million persecuted Christians, that is simply not acceptable,” said Giroud.

Collected over 13,000 euros

For the campaign, the athletes donated their jerseys or sports shoes, which were auctioned at the online gala “The Goal”. The gala was organized on November 22nd by the French-speaking community “French Connect London” and the Christian association “Plus Que Sportifs”. The auction was open until December 6th – a total of 13,300 euros came together.

This money will go entirely to the organizations «Open Doors» and «Holistic Sports» France, both of which work for persecuted Christians worldwide. Specifically, it is about school support and football school projects in northern Cameroon, northwest Africa and Mali.

“Voice for the voiceless”

Giroud donated several jerseys and shoes for the campaign, all of them hand-signed, of course. Because «we who live with a certain comfort must think of those who suffer so much»; for this reason he repeatedly supports organizations such as Open Doors and Holistic Sports. “Thanks to my fame, I can be a voice for the voiceless,” Giroud continued. “The stories of the persecution of Christians that were shown at the gala gave me goosebumps. I was blown away by the testimonials. 260 million persecuted Christians in the world is simply not acceptable, we have to talk about it! “

Olivier Giroud repeatedly addresses his belief in the media. He’s also already posed with a New Testament from “More Than Sports” in hand. Giroud encouraged his millions of followers via social media to read this edition of the New Testament, which also contains life stories from various athletes. «I recommend you read this book of life stories. I wish you good read and do not forget that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. ”
