Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In this week’s meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to collaborate in dominating the world of information technology.
The agreement is contained in a document entitled ‘Joint Statement between China and Russia to Deepen the Comprehensive Partnership Strategy in Coordination in the New Era’.
After the meeting of the two heads of state, Putin said technological strength was the main key for long-term sustainability. For this reason, Russia and China will enhance strategic cooperation in several specific industries, including technology.
“By bringing together research resources and industrial capabilities, Russia and China will become world leaders in information technology, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI),” Putin said, quoted from TheRegisterWednesday (22/3/2023).
In the agreement document, the cooperation between the two countries will also include a digital economy, a low carbon economy (low-carbon), Internet of Things (IoT)as well as strengthening the 5G network.
Even though it sounds ambitious, the two countries are known not to have as many allies as the US. This can be an obstacle to achieving the goal of ‘taking over the world’.
As an initial step, China and Russia will help each other in creating technological initiatives in each country. China through ‘Global Data Security Initiative’ and Russia through ‘International Information Security Convention’.
Putin and Xi also signaled they would have the UN cybersecurity initiative in motion ‘United Nations Open Working Group on Security in the Use of Information and Communications Technology 2021-2025’.
This agreement in terms of cyber security can be said to bring fresh air to the global world. The reason is, Russia and China have been predicted as a source of international cyber attacks.
Furthermore, the document stated the firm stance of Russia and China which rejected the idea of democracy as a superior model of government.
“We are against the hypocritical narrative of what is often called ‘democracy against authoritarianism’. We are against the use of democracy and freedom which is often used as an excuse to put pressure on other countries,” stated the agreement document.
In conclusion, Russia and China will cooperate in building technological resources as a source of defense. Despite supporting the UN’s national security program, both countries are adamant against democracy.
