Throne & Liberty is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious MMORPGs ever, and in a recent interview with the developers at NCsoft and publishers at Amazon Games, we learned more about how changing your character’s form and the in-game weather can also change what the players can traditionally do in the genre.
From left to right, we speak with Design Director Moonseop Lee, Lead Producer Jongok Ahn and Amazon Games’ Franchise Manager Merv Lee Kwai:
“When people play this game, for example, on one course, it may be the same course, but we wanted players to have different experiences even on one course,” explains the main producer about the background of the changing weather. “When it’s night, people might turn into werewolves, or when it rains, the vegetation, trees and plants might change. So yes, depending on the weather or the day-night cycle, the reward might be different”, which can also be exploited in combat .
“One thing that the morph can be used for, for example, is to move around in the world”, adds the design director. “So when you move on land, in water or in the air, you can transform into different creatures as a means of transportation in the world. And on top of that, we also have the guardian. It’s a kind of very special creature that you can transform into, like a ultimate power in your game.
But it has a long cooldown and is introduced late into the game. People can also transform into a golem. And then this golem can crash down and tear down the castle wall. So this is a kind of special feature in your battles in a war”.
