Kochi: The government has sought time to file a counter-affidavit in the petition seeking action related to the distribution of Thrissur Pooram. An appeal was filed in the High Court for another three weeks. The government has informed the Supreme Court that ADGP MR Ajith Kumar has submitted an inquiry report regarding the distribution of Thrissur Pooram and that this report is being considered. Documents are being examined to prepare an affidavit. Therefore, the government told the Supreme Court that it needs more time.
Meanwhile, the Home Secretary rejected the report of ADGP MR Ajith Kumar in Thrissur Pooram Kalakal and recommended a fresh probe. The Home Secretary recommended a DGP-level inquiry against Ajit Kumar and another inquiry into Pooram Kalakal. The recommendation of the inquiry against the ADGP is based on the finding in the DGP’s letter. But replacing Ajith Kumar is not recommended.
Keeping in mind the political pressure of the CPI and the letter of the DGP against the ADGP, the new investigation in Pooram Kalakal is being cleared. The DGP had denied the report that the accused Ajit Kumar had cleared himself. The DGP criticized Ajit Kumar for not intervening when Pooram was blocked even though he was on the spot. The report was also alleged to have been delayed for five months. When the DGP wrote a cover letter as an allegation on the ADGP’s report, the government reached the point where it could not do without a new investigation. Home Secretary Biswanath Sinha proposed a DGP-level inquiry against the ADGP. Another suggestion for investigation is to trace the plot in the Pooram coup.
The decision of the Prime Minister on the recommendation of the two-stage study is now important. It remains to be seen whether a two-stage investigation will be announced or whether it will go to judicial review. Currently, there are various investigations against Ajith Kumar.
