The threshold of 500 corona patients on intensive care services is getting closer again. At the moment 540 people still need intensive care in hospitals, according to preliminary figures from health institute Sciensano on Saturday morning.

The number of hospital admissions continues to decline steadily. An average of 127.4 people were admitted per day for the last seven days, a decrease of 12 percent compared to the previous seven-day period. A total of 1,612 people remain in the hospital.
About 2,159 new infections were diagnosed daily between 12 and 18 May. That is 22 percent less than in the previous period. The positivity ratio is still 5.8 percent.
The number of deaths continues to fall most sharply. From 12 to 18 May, an average of 19.9 people a day died from the effects of an infection, a decrease of 37.1 percent. COVID-19 claimed a total of 24,809 human lives in our country.
