Thresher shark sold to Leclerc: the store opens an investigation

Consumers doing their shopping on Wednesday in a Leclerc hypermarket in Vitry-sur-Seine (a Paris suburb) were shocked to see that in the fishmonger’s department, a thresher shark, an endangered species, was on sale at 11.90 euros per kilo. ..

According to Sea Sheperd, to whom the photos were sent, the thresher shark is an endangered species and targeted fishing is prohibited. “If accidental captures are not sanctioned and it is legal to market them, the lack of ethics and the irresponsibility of professionals eager for profit should no longer be ignored”, writes the maritime NGO in a Facebook post. “We appeal to the responsibility of each consumer and each professional: everyone must measure the impact of their consumption on these species and their habitats.”

The brand put an end to this controversial sale the next day, after many Internet users denounced this process on social networks. Leclerc in turn wrote on Facebook and announced that she was opening an internet investigation “to understand how such an error had been possible”.
