Another tragedy has struck the Ascoli area, the scene of three very serious accidents involving children over the weekend. In the afternoon, a 3-year-old boy, who was with his family in an agricultural area in Spinetoli, ended up in an irrigation canal and died despite desperate resuscitation efforts. His relatives had lost sight of him and had reported him missing: after a few hours, while the firefighters and the Carabinieri were searching, the little boy’s body was seen in the water by two people who were passing by and who alerted the rescuers.
Also on site were the 118 health workers who tried everything possible to bring the child back to consciousness with long resuscitation maneuvers. The helicopter ambulance was also alerted, for a possible transport to the regional hospital of Torrette in Ancona, which was sent back because the child had died in the meantime.
Investigations are underway to clarify the dynamics of the tragic accident. The child, of foreign origin, who at the time of his disappearance was with his family, including his pregnant mother, was recovered in a canal about a meter and a half deep, about a kilometer from where he had been last seen by his relatives who had immediately reported his disappearance.
Also in the Ascoli area, in Acquasanta Terme, another tragedy occurred yesterday, already an unfortunate date for the eighth anniversary of the 2016 earthquake that caused 299 victims, including 52 in Pescara and Arquata del Tronto (Ascoli Piceno): a 4-year-old boy, Davide Marcozzi, died due to very serious chest injuries caused by the fall of a metal drum. The little boy was with his father in the garage of their home in the Ficciano hamlet, when he tried to pick up the container, loaded with ferrous material, which fell on him. The father, a few meters away from him, did not have time to react because the tragedy occurred in a few moments. The parent immediately alerted the emergency services but there was nothing that could be done for the child.
Yesterday evening, another accident in Roccafluvione, still in the Ascoli area. A seven-year-old boy fell from a height of three and a half meters after a railing on the balcony of his home collapsed, while he was playing. The 118 paramedics transferred him by helicopter to the Trauma Center in Ancona. The boy remained conscious throughout, although agitated: in this case, tragedy was averted.
