Three Vendors That Dominate the 2020 Smartwatch Market

KOMPAS.com – Three smart watch manufacturers ( smartwatch) namely Apple, Huawei, and Samsung dominate the market smartwatch global by 2020.

According to a report by research firm Counterpoint, these three companies controlled the top three during the first quarter (Q1) 2020 to the third quarter (Q3) 2020.

Of the three vendors who dominate the market smarwatch, Apple is still consistently emerging as a leader.

From the first to the second quarter of 2020, Apple controlled 30 percent of the market share smartwatch global. This figure has increased from the same period the previous year (2019).

Meanwhile, in the third quarter (Q3) of 2020, the market share of the company from the United States fell slightly to 28 percent.

“Apple continues to dominate the smartwatch market in terms of both volume and value. This is partly due to the strong demand for Apple Watch 5, “said Counterpoint Senior Analyst, Sujeong Lim.

The vendor that dominates the smartwatch market share is Huawei. Huawei has consistently been in second place throughout the three quarters of 2020, trailing Apple.

The Chinese manufacturer experienced market share growth for three consecutive quarters. In the first quarter of 2020, Huawei captured market share smartwatch by 12 percent. Then in the second quarter 14 percent, and the third quarter 15 percent.

This growth is arguably significant compared to 2019. In the previous year, Huawei’s market share for three quarters was not more than 10 percent.

Samsung also dominates the smartwatch market share in the top three. In terms of ranking, Samsung is below Huawei or in third place.

In the first quarter of 2020, this South Korean manufacturer controlled 9 percent of the market smartwatch global as assembled KompasTekno from Counterpoint Research, Thursday (21/1/2021).

However, in the second quarter, Samsung’s market share declined to 7 percent. However, in the third quarter of 2020, market share Samsung bounced back to 10 percent after releasing the Galaxy Watch 3.

“Samsung stagnated in Semester 1 2020. Because it attracted fewer premium consumers than Apple, demand weakened during the pandemic,” said Sujeong.

“In terms of revenue, Samsung is growing 59 percent year on year and is expecting better growth momentum now,” concluded Sujeong.
