three valaisan SMEs take over on …

There is a climate emergency. Companies must reduce their CO2 emissions, reduce their waste, etc. This observation is easy to make, the realization is more complex for those who also have the responsibility of running their company and paying salaries…

The 2020 Summit Prize launched by UBS Valais offers three Valaisan companies the opportunity to take up this challenge by being coached for nine months by an expert, Olivier Brüggimann, environmental management specialist, founder and director of the ecoLive office.

To be able to give examples to follow

“The goal is first to perpetuate the business model of these companies, but also to serve as an example and to give ideas to other SMEs,” explains Iwan Willisch, regional director of UBS Valais, quoted in a statement.

The three challengers of the year come from the three regions of the canton, but also from three economic sectors. It is:

  • Bühler Entreprises Monthey, an electricity and electrical engineering company, which wants to do without fossil fuels in its workshops.
  • Biofruits in Vétroz which packages and markets 2,000 tonnes of organic fruit per year; this company aims to reduce its distribution circuits and integrate renewable energies, it which has already installed 8000 m² of solar panels.
  • Hotel Tradition Julen in Zermatt, an establishment which produces part of the food sold to its customers and which manufactures biogas; the hotel would like to go further in these steps.

Several areas for improvement

If each challenger pursues a particular goal by embarking on this adventure, the possibilities for improvement are varied, as Olivier Brüggimann explains: “There are many avenues for preserving the environment: saving energy, reducing gas emissions greenhouse, reduction and / or recovery of waste and packaging. But we can also act on the life cycle of a product or service, on the commuting or professional mobility of employees, on the movement of customers or on the transport of goods, “lists this specialist in environmental management.

The results of this challenge will be presented at the Prix Sommet evening, which will be held on Thursday, November 26, at the multi-purpose hall in Conthey.
