In Geneva, a three-tonne construction machine slipped into the Rhône on Wednesday at the start of the afternoon. Given the wooded environment, he had to be airlifted. A Superpuma pulled him out of his bad posture five hours later.
The Geneva Fire and Rescue Service (SIS) received a call at 1:44 p.m., said its spokesman, Lieutenant Nicolas Millot. The machine, which was involved in the work to secure the cliffs of St-Jean, was rolling on a small path when one of its wheels got stuck. It then skidded in the Rhône, while its driver was able to jump onto dry land without injuring himself.
The SIS intervened with a boat and eight firefighters. The police navigation brigade also came to secure the scene. The SIS has set up a dam to protect the river from any possible hydrocarbon pollution. Two tree branches were cut, and the Superpuma was able to pull the craft out of the water and drop it on the trail at 6:44 p.m.
