Three things you haven’t seen on TV

Bayern “fans”, memorabilia and a strange ball – three things that weren’t visible on TV.

Bayern Munich wins the Final der Champions League against PSG 1-0 and thus secures the coveted triple. In Lisbon, three things stand out that TV viewers at home have missed.

Due to the corona protective measures, the Champions League final in Lisbon also took place in camera. The two teams in the Estádio da Luz did not have to do without support. In addition to the impressively powerful substitutes who supported their teams loudly during the run-in, when they won duels and often even when throwing in, Bayern had something like their own fan club with them at the final.

Outside the TV cameras, in the two middle rings of the stadium, numerous delegates and officials from FCB were present. And in contrast to “normal games” in full stadiums, where this type of spectator is comparatively quiet, in Portugal they have become something like a mini fan curve. Again and again, the 40-strong troop began to play well-known Bayern chants and fan chants, pushing the team towards Henkelpott. It got particularly loud with Kingsley Coman’s winning goal and in the closing stages of the game.

Bayern “fans” in the stadium in Lisbon

In the Estádio da Luz, FC Bayern Munich actually had to do without its fans in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. But then there was a little support for the Munich team.

In the 12th minute there is a curious scene with a throw-in. Bayern coach Hansi Flick catches a ball that is sailing out of bounds, but instead of throwing it to the next player, the 55-year-old starts pushing around on the game device with a critical expression. His look shows that something is wrong – but what?

Referee Daniele Orsato also noticed Flick’s reaction, and the referee knows what the problem is: the ball has too little pressure. According to the German “Bild”, he shouts the following words to Flick: “I know… Every ball sucks, but I can’t change that.” UEFA is responsible for inflating the balls at Champions League matches. Something seems to have gone wrong at the European Football Association’s preparation, because not only is the pressure of the ball wrong, the lettering is also wrong. Instead of “Lisbon 2020”, “Istanbul 2020” is written on the ball – where the final should originally have taken place.

What’s wrong with the final ball?

You don’t win a Champions League final every day. This is what some of the players at FC Bayern Munich thought after the triumph in Lisbon and therefore looked around for a souvenir appropriate to the occasion immediately after the game. It doesn’t take long until you find something. Under the guidance of Captain Manuel Neuer, the Bayern stars quickly remove the net of the goal in which Kingsley Coman successfully nodded the ball in the 59th minute.

So that every player can take their own souvenir home with them, the goal net is then cut into many small squares and distributed among the other players. You can do it like that – even if the groundskeeper will probably not find it pleasant the next day.
