Three things we love about David Beckham |Marie Claire

  • Victoria Beckham recently celebrated her 50th birthday.
  • David Beckham is impossible not to love.
  • Here are three reasons why we love David Beckham.

Victoria Beckham turned 50 on April 17. She and her husband, David Beckham, have been a couple for twenty-five years. During the time they spent together, they not only experienced beautiful moments, but also went through a lot of ups and downs, but they still stand by each other.

Although they are not the English royal family, at least as many people follow the life of the Beckhams worldwide as they are interested in the private life of Prince William and Duchess Catherine. Former soccer legend and Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham is one of the UK’s most popular couples. For many years, fans have watched their every moment with prying eyes, from the fairytale beginnings to the affair scandal of the 48-year-old athlete, which shook not only their seemingly perfect family, but also the whole world.

Victoria and David’s shared history began at a charity football match in 1997, because that’s when they met for the first time. They fell in love at first sight and got married in 1999 in a castle near Dublin. During their 26-year relationship, the Beckhams had four children together: 25-year-old Brooklyn, 21-year-old Romeo, 19-year-old Cruz and their 12-year-old little sister Harper. So David has done some controversial things in his life and career, but we insist that overall there is reason to love him. And we collected them!

3 things we love about David Beckham:

1. He is able to admit his mistakes

In 2003, the footballer was accused of infidelity after he was seen leaving a nightclub with his former personal assistant, Rebecca Loos. Soon after, Loos stated that their affair lasted for four months. David called the claims ridiculous at the time, but has since spoken freely about the misstep, admitting it was the most difficult time in his marriage. “I honestly don’t know how we got through it. Victoria is my everything. It was incredibly hard to see him hurt. But we are fighters. And at that time we had to fight for each other, we had to fight for our family,” said the star.

2. Talks about mental health

David Beckham was only 17 years old when he became famous in the world of football. As Manchester United’s up-and-coming midfielder, he quickly won the hearts of fans and became known as one of the most talented players of his generation. However, soon after his debut, his career was almost derailed as he was blamed for his team’s failure at the 1998 World Cup. He admitted that he couldn’t go anywhere without being subjected to a campaign of hate from fans, an experience that deeply broke him. At the age of 23, David became depressed and felt very vulnerable and alone. “It’s hard for me to talk about what I went through because it was so extreme. The whole country hated me,” said the former athlete.

3. He likes to try new things

Following his retirement from professional sports David he decided to try himself in new fields. Instead of sitting back and enjoying the fruits of his labor, he decided to take up beekeeping instead. His luxury mansion in the countryside is home to a small bee farm, where the former footballer often goes and collects his own honey.
