Three teenagers were arrested in France on Monday in connection with a terror investigation in Belgium. On Sunday, four teenagers were arrested in our country for possibly planning an attack on the Brussels Botanique concert hall.
The young people who were arrested in our country on Sunday for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack may have had contacts in France. This has led to the arrests of three teenagers in France, reports Le Journal de Dimanche. It is not yet clear what exactly the teenagers in France are suspected of.
The research in Belgium is still ongoing. The key players in that terror case stood out because of their young age: three minors from Ninove, Brussels and Charleroi and an 18-year-old from Liège.
How concrete the plan for the attack on the Botanique was, and whether it was more than boasting, must become clear from further investigation.
The federal public prosecutor’s office erred on the side of caution and took action. “In such a situation, we would rather intervene too early than too late,” a spokesperson said.
Youth institution
The examination of the suspects’ computers and mobile phones will probably provide more clarity.
The adult Belgian suspect has been arrested by the investigating judge for participating in the activities of a terrorist group and preparing a terrorist attack.
The minors have been placed in a closed institution by the juvenile judge. No weapons or explosives were found during searches of the homes of those involved. (lm, blg)
