Three summer hotspots in Bern | GaultMillau

Serini – Bern’s best Aare restaurant

What Bruno Bucher and Simon Rudaz have been delivering at the “Serini” (large picture above) for nine years is exceptionally good, and not just for a beach restaurant. Salade niçoise comme il faut with smoked whitefish fillets from Lake Biel, green beans, potatoes, sweet and savoury tomatoes, soft-boiled eggs and a slice of lemon. Impeccable moules marinières in a light cider sauce with homemade Belgian-style chips fried in beef fat. And a pizza that is one of the best in town: sourdough made from white, rye and spelt flour, which rests for 48 hours before being topped with tomato sauce and burrata, shoulder ham or anchovies and capers and put into the hot oven. “When we took over the business, it was a chip shop with plastic chairs. Every year, something new is added to the menu,” says Bucher about his pub on the Aare, which of course also serves his first-class cider (“Heftig”). The “Serini” is also a good place to go after your morning swim: breakfast with homemade sourdough bread and jam, as well as croissants and orange juice, is available from eight in the morning.
