Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono open voice and give advice to the government in maintaining economic stability amid the pandemic, especially in the face of the threat of a recession. As is known, Indonesia’s economy in the second quarter of this year was minus 5.32 percent, if it was negative again in the third quarter, it would enter the abyss of recession.
The former president who is familiarly called SBY emphasized that the suggestion was not to patronize because the economic cabinet under President Joko Widodo already had steps to resolve.
“I have to be careful, don’t let me be seen as patronizing like that, lecturing. I’m sure Mr. Jokowi, the economic ministers already know the problem and also know what the solution is,” said SBY in the CNBC Indonesia Exclusive event, Friday (14 / 8/2020).
There are 3 things that follow SBY can be the focus of the government. First, prevent economic growth from falling through stimulus.
“Yes, prevent excessive decline in GDP. So indeed stimulation of growth is very important, economic stabilization is also very important,” said SBY.
Second, fix unemployment problem.
“Don’t forget that unemployment is everywhere. It should be resolved immediately, because otherwise it will hit consumption, consumption will drop, growth will definitely drop,” he added.
Third, provide more assistance to the poor, especially victims of layoffs.
“Help the people who are in trouble, do not have a job to lose their jobs, especially the poor,” said SBY.
When all three agendas are met, SBY optimistic that the recession that Indonesia may experience will not be prolonged.
“Now, if we focus on these 3 things, in my opinion there is still a possibility, if after all we experience a recession that is not prolonged. Hopefully, if Allah helps us to get out of the recession, even though I don’t want to give heaven’s wind, the situation is quite heavy,” said SBY.
