Three Romanian nationals were sentenced on Monday, February 14 to suspended prison sentences, for having sold at a high price vehicles in poor condition with false papers in the Dijon sector. Complaints from individuals had allowed the network to be dismantled in February 2021.
“Shipwrecks” hastily cobbled together and sold at a high price on the Internet. A scam that has claimed many victims in the Dijon region. The case began in May 2020 when the gendarmes discovered a burnt-out vehicle in the territory of Genlis. The investigations then make it possible to go back to a man. The latter had declared between 600 and 700 vehicles.
For two years, the research brigade of the Côte-d’Or gendarmerie carried out the investigation and brought to light a well-structured traffic in the sale of cars, led by nationals of Eastern European countries.
These men bought vehicles in very poor condition, then “made up” them to resell them to buyers on online second-hand sites, in particular Leboncoin. The vehicles were resold up to four times their price, with false technical controls. The new happy owners were not long in becoming disillusioned…
A scam that allowed criminals to generate two million euros of turnover. Profits that were reinvested in real estate in Romania. A house was seized by the gendarmes, as well as a dozen vehicles and 35,000 euros in cash.
In Côte d’Or, a dozen people were arrested. This Monday, February 14, three Romanian nationals were sentenced to sentences ranging from 3 months to 12 months suspended prison sentence, by the Dijon Criminal Court.
