LM : We want a first reaction, after this lovely adventure this afternoon. The first Marseillaise heard in this tournament and the opportunity to plan for the next round. What are the first feelings, the first emotions that come after this victory?
GB : Very happy, first of all because I didn’t necessarily expect three weeks ago to be in Roland’s table. Winning the first round in 5 sets, the audience was boiling hot as soon as they entered the court. It was really nice. Premiere Marseillaise, the public was thoroughly, they supported me until the end. There were ups and downs in this match, but I managed to get through it. So I’m delighted.
LM : How did the public carry you today? How did you feel about this big plus on this short 14?
GB : Inevitably, when he chants your name, when he sings the Marseillaise, you get a little shivers. You still have to manage to refocus well and play. It gives extra energy. For the adversary, it is not easy either. The audience was really hot, it was really cool. In important moments, it helps you to commit more, to get the points and not necessarily to hold back and wait for the fault. That’s what the public helped me too, to seek feedback on second aggressive enough to destabilize it. They supported me throughout the match.
LM: You said that you had caught Covid at the end of the year, that you had gone to Australia in disaster. You had a difficult start to the season. When you came to the Play In Challenger in Lille in March, which you had already won twice, you left prematurely. Where were you at this time? Were you already at the bottom of the hole at that time?
GB : Yes a bit because over there, I have always had good tournaments over the three editions, I had good feelings and there, losing so early, it took a toll on my morale. The week after, the same, it was a bad game. It was complicated. I had to raise my head, hence this conversation after Split. I would have liked to raise my head earlier, but it was a difficult period. Now, I put the blue heater on and it started again.
