AndA moving autobiographical story, a powerful repetition choreography, a dazzling dance evening with the media: three of the latest performances of the Rhein-Main Dance Festival, which presented a total of 18 productions in the last two weeks, once again reveal the diversity of contemporary dance for which the Festival stands out. Although very different, the productions are equally applauded by the entire audience, they arouse enthusiasm, they carry away.
In Wen Hui’s solo “I am 60”, performed at the Mousonturm in Frankfurt, the Chinese dancer and choreographer shares her life story with the audience. On large projection screens, she too tells them through images, film extracts and interviews. In front of and between areas of the image, Hui moves uncertainly like a dancer. Her movements within her create a connection between her body and the documents that appear around her. To do this, you don’t have to physically illustrate the statements and images that are in the room. Rather, her body is the point of reference that repeatedly signals that her traces also pass through her and are inscribed within her.
