Three police officers in the George Floyd case will go to court in January

The three must appear in court almost nine months after former police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of the murder of George Floyd. A video of the killing, which took place in May 2020, sparked major demonstrations against racism in both the United States and the rest of the world.

The trial, which begins on January 20, is the first of two that former police officers Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane have to go through, and is that they have violated Floyd’s civil rights at the federal level. No date has been set for the second trial, which involves charges at the state level.

Chauvin also has to go through a new trial, this time at the federal level. In December, he pleaded guilty to violating Floyd’s civil rights, the first time he has pleaded guilty.
