Three men were struck and killed in New York last night in a span of four hours, and drivers fled in two of those collisions.

In the first case, at about 7:30 p.m. a 62-year-old man was struck by a northbound vehicle as he was crossing Third Avenue at East 122nd Street, East Harlem. The unidentified pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The driver fled the scene. Investigators did not immediately provide a description of the vehicle involved.

Just 15 minutes earlier another pedestrian had been struck and killed at 50th Street and 13th Avenue in Borough Park, Brooklyn. Two vehicles collided at the intersection, the impact sending one of them into a 23-year-old who was standing nearby, authorities said.

Rescuers took the injured man to a nearby hospital, but were unable to save him. The drivers in that collision stayed at the scene. It was not immediately clear if anyone else was injured.

less than four hours later a 64-year-old man on a bicycle was run over by a white van near Williamsbridge Road and Pierce Avenue in the Morris Park section of The Bronx around 11:20 p.m., according to authorities.

The driver of the pickup continued after the collision and is currently at large. The motorist may have been fleeing from police at the time of the collision, he said. Pix11. The cyclist was taken to a local hospital, but they were unable to save him.

Police have not released the names of any of the three victims at this time. Neither no arrests have been made or suspects identified about the drivers who fled. In addition to gun violence, traffic accidents are another big challenge for Mayor Eric Adams. This despite “Vision Zero” (Vision Zero), traffic safety plan created in 2014 by then-new mayor Bill de Blasio, who promised to make the city safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, with a goal of zero deaths by 2024.

But 2022 was a disastrous year on New York asphalt in all five boroughs. From January 1 to July 31, some 150 people died in road accidents, according to the city’s Department of Transportation (DOT). Particularly there was a 129% increase in hit and run incidents.

New York City had already experienced in April 2022 a 35% increase in traffic accidents, alerted NYPD. At the end of that month there was a tragic streak to an average of one person killed by being run over every day.
