Three out of ten Norwegians believe that it should be allowed to burn religious symbols

The view of how harmful utterances can be divides the population. It shows a new study from the Department of Social Research.

The debates about freedom of speech are often about the extent to which speech can be harmful. One side believes that certain statements must be limited to protect minorities. The other believes that the space for expression must be as wide as possible.

The Department of Social Research, on behalf of Fritt Ord, has now mapped the position of Norwegians in this question. The book “Freedom of expression in a new public” describes the population’s attitudes to freedom of expression.
