Three ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks at CHSLD and Magog hospital

COVID-19. Three outbreaks of COVID-19 are currently underway at the Memphrémagog health and social services center.

These infections affect 10 residents or users as well as 6 employees in the portions of the hospital and the long-term care center (CHSLD). No deaths have been recorded.

The establishment appears far in the list of CHSLDs in Quebec. It is in the category of living environments with less than 15% of confirmed cases among residents. Several CHSLDs in the province are struggling with proportions greater than 15%, and even 25%.

These data were provided by the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS on Wednesday. The outbreak began a few days before the holidays. There were then less than five positive employees and less than five infected residents on December 21.

The management of the establishment is obviously taking the situation seriously. It ensures that it is applying the necessary measures to prevent the spread. These include the analysis and redevelopment of the premises which can even go as far as the displacement of residents / users if necessary.

The application of all basic practices in infection prevention and control (hand hygiene, wearing of personal protective equipment, etc.) is also continued.

Here are the measures that are in place for the sectors concerned:

  • Massive screening of all staff and residents / users from the first positive case (day 0);
  • Massive screening subsequent to 7 days;
  • Individual screenings between massive screenings as soon as symptoms appear in residents / users or staff members;
  • Preventive isolation of all residents / users in close contact for 14 days;
  • Enhancement of hygiene and sanitation activities;
  • Application of the self-screening symptom registry for staff members;
  • Staff members assess themselves at home and must sign the register upon arriving at the unit, certifying that they have no symptoms.
  • Keeping of a register of visitors;
  • Validation of the vaccination passport for access to care / living units.

These outbreaks are in addition to those deemed to be controlled in private residences for seniors in Magog. (See other article)
