Three NYC health leaders get vaccinated with a different type of vaccine to show its effectiveness – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Three of New York City’s top health leaders got vaccinated over the weekend and each received a different type of vaccine to show that all three – Moderna, Jhonson & Johnson and Pfizer – are safe, he said. Mayor Bill de Blasio during his press conference on Monday.

City Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi received his single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine over the weekend. He personally battled COVID last month and said he didn’t get a first dose earlier because he felt others were more vulnerable.

Dr. Jay Varma, Senior Public Health Advisor to the Mayor’s Office, and Dr. Mitchell Katz, President and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals, also received their first doses. Varma received the Moderna vaccine, while Katz received the Pfizer, as part of a coordinated effort to show New Yorkers that the effectiveness of the vaccine transcends the brand.

“This is a personal illustration of what each of us has said publicly. All licensed vaccines are safe, effective and save lives,” said Chokshi. “They all offer strong protection against serious diseases. The best vaccine is the one you can get now.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has said he will get the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine when his turn comes.

In New York City, 1.65 million people (19.7 percent of the population) have received at least one dose, while nearly 783,000 (9.3 percent of the population) have both.
