A trio of real-life Golden Girls turned 100 within a week of each other in June of this year. Longtime friends Ruth Schwartz, Edith ‘Mitzi’ Moscow and Lorraine Pirrello have a special reason for enjoying each other’s company. Newly vaccinated, they celebrated the remarkable milestone of their centennial together just days apart on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. New York women reunited with family and close friends at a party on June 8. Born in 1921 the same month, the three friends find it hard to believe the milestone they share. Their century of memories for that day includes the pandemic. They survived the crisis together and therefore feel delighted to have reached the centenary. Loraine, who started tennis in her mid-60s and played until the late 90s, said: “When we were confined for all these months it was really horrible, but it was necessary. “
Ruth, who turned 100 on June 15, said, “I think I was born under a lucky star. We went through it together. I’m just grateful that I was here to get the shot, ”People reported.
They have several grandchildren who live in the same building. Ruth is a retired teacher, Lorraine has served as an opera singer at the Metropolitan Opera, and Edith Moscow is an entrepreneur. They raised glasses of champagne at an establishment they share in the Atria Senior Living community.
The folks at Atria Senior Living have planned a week of festivities to mark the close friendship between these amazing women. Banners and balloons were put up by staff at the Upper West Side facility near Riverside Drive before singing three different interpretations of Happy Birthday. A giant cake topped with candles made it to the party which was doused with champagne. The occasion was rather emotional for Loraine as she reunited with her niece after almost two years.
