Three men injured in downtown Montreal

Three men were taken to hospital after two separate incidents of gun violence in downtown Montreal overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

Around 2:30 a.m., an officer from the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) on regular patrol was first notified that an individual with a firearm was in the area of Sainte-Catherine and Crescent streets, in the Ville-Marie borough, with a firearm.

The police then located two injured 22-year-old men. One of them was stabbed in the lower body while the other, a victim of assault, suffered injuries to the upper body. The two men were taken to a hospital where there was no fear for their lives.

A suspect was arrested by the police and a compressed air type weapon was found nearby. According to the first information, it would be a conflict which degenerated.

When the police were on the scene to investigate the first incident, a 27-year-old individual, visibly injured in the upper body by a stab wound, presented himself to ask for assistance.

The incident, believed to be an altercation that escalated, allegedly occurred in an alley off Crescent Street. The man was also transported to a hospital.

“So far, there does not seem to be a link between the two events,” said Véronique Comtois, SPVM spokesperson.

The investigation is continuing in order to understand the circumstances surrounding these two events.
