Cuban authorities arrested three men accused of killing dogs in the municipality of San José de las Lajas, in the province of Mayabeque, to later sell their meat as if it were pork or mutton.
The incident was reported by animal rights activist Yenny Caballero, who posted on Facebook revealing several details of the case.
According to the woman, these subjects were discovered with a briefcase full of dog heads, so the police conducted a search of their home. There, they found the tools they used to commit these inhumane acts, as well as the remains of more animals in the trash.
“Just now they found some guys here with a briefcase containing dog heads. A few of the dogs that have been lost in San José de las Lajas, which are not few, were inside that crate. They killed them to sell the meat,” the animal activist is heard saying during the live interview.
The subjects are suspected of killing stray animals to carry out their terrible business, however, it is also suspected that they would have been killing pets that had family on the Island.
In that sense, Caballero indicated that a neighbor in the area, who lost her pet, was the one who filed the complaint.
The animal activist managed to enter the criminals’ house despite the police presence, and from inside she shared disturbing images in which several sacks with viscera inside and an ax that was allegedly used to commit the brutal acts could be seen.
Caballero points out that, in addition to the three detainees, the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) is looking for three other people, two men and a woman who are also allegedly accomplices.
“What these unscrupulous elements did is criminal. They killed the vast majority of community dogs in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque province, as well as many animals that had families and that until today did not know the whereabouts of their pet,” Caballero denounced indignantly.
Finally, the woman indicated that several families, who had bought meat from these people thinking it was pork, went to the PNR station, and that there were reports of “sick children” because of what happened.
