Late on Wednesday evening (December 29th) at around 10:00 p.m. there was a serious accident on the BAB 5 near the Seeheim motorway junction in the direction of Darmstadt. According to the previous investigations, there was a collision between a BMW 5 ‘Series and a BMW X 1. As a result of the collision, both vehicles were thrown from the main lane into the junction. The BMW X 1 overturned and came to a standstill on the roof. The 18-year-old driver of the BMW X 1 from Oberhausen, the 22-year-old driver of the BMW 5’er from Mannheim and his 21-year-old co-driver from the Heidelberg district were injured and were taken to nearby hospitals. An expert was called in to clarify the exact course of the accident. The driver was also suspected of previous drug use. A blood sample was taken from him. The Seeheim exit had to be completely closed with an accompanying radio warning message during the rescue and recovery work, the main carriageway only had to be completely closed for a short time (10 minutes). The Darmstadt autobahn maintenance office had to close the junction for cleaning work until around 02:00 a.m. Several ambulances, an ambulance and the fire department were also deployed.
