We already wrote at the end of April that three business circles showed interest in buying Újpest FC in the spring.

Nemzeti Sport learned that Újpest prepared the draft contract on the change of ownership, which was received by all three interested parties, and it is currently being reviewed and studied. A competitive negotiation is underway between the parties, the best bidder, the group of companies with the closest offer compared to those specified in the draft contract, can be the winner. According to previous news, the current owner of the club, Roderick Duchatelet, is ready to part with his ownership for 20 million euros, but the club did not respond to the news of the interested parties that appeared in the spring.

As we reported in April, one of the interested groups is the American Hungarian billionaire Tamás Péterffy – Thomas Peterffy – and his group of companies, the Interactive Brokers Group. Thomas Peterffy is the chairman and largest shareholder of Interactive Brokers Group. The 78-year-old businessman is considered one of the richest Hungarians in the world and has interests in our country as well. In 2017, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit in the civilian category.

Another interested party is Ferenc Lukács, who has already played a role in the club’s ownership circle. And the third is the Russian billionaire, who also has Hungarian citizenship, and the company group, which also has a significant OTP share package and is also interested in the Hungarian real estate market, is marked by the name of Megdet Rahimkulov.

The Russian interested party can be represented by a Hungarian businessman who has already cooperated with the Russian company group in several other deals.

Nemzeti Sport knows that one of the three interested parties would pay for Újpest FC with real estate, and Roderick Duchatelet, who already has several interests in the real estate market, is no longer shying away from this possibility of sale either.

Depending on the specific offer that the interested parties make after receiving the said draft, the negotiations may speed up next week, but they may even drag on if no suitable offer is received.
