Three students are under arrest after the daily scan registered firearms, this in three different high schools in the city.
At Mott Haven High School in the Bronx, the random scan found that a 15-year-old boy was carrying a loaded revolver.
A discharged .32 revolver was seized from an 18-year-old student during a scan on Stevenson’s campus in the Bronx.
NYPD seized a third pistol from a 17-year-old student at FDR High School in Brooklyn.
“Weapons of any kind have no place in our schools, and our prominent school safety officers quickly and safely recovered these items during assessments, ensuring that all students and staff are safe,” the Education Department spokesman Nathaniel Styer.
“All protocols were followed and we are working closely with the New York Police Department regarding follow-up actions.”
In a statement, a spokesman for the school safety officers union expressed frustration with the City Council.
“School security officers face these kinds of things every day to protect our children and parents,” the statement said. “When will the City Council wake up?”
