A new study conducted by an international team of scientists from Germany and the Netherlands and published in the journal Nutrients on October 31, 2023, sends a warning to people about their lifestyle. Experts have found that failing to follow three habits in everyday life leads to a major risk of chronic disease and premature death.
Researchers have said that 3 habits of an optimal lifestyle are essential for health: regular exercise, a healthy diet and adequate sleep, according to News Medical.
The most influential and controllable element influencing overall health and disease resistance is lifestyle. Chronic disease cases are a critical global health problem, as they account for a considerable proportion of deaths globally.

Chronic diseases cause poor health, disability and early mortality in developed countries, contributing to a large proportion of healthcare expenditure. In Western countries, the burden of chronic disease is driven by hazardous lifestyles, environmental and social factors, and shorter life expectancy.
In the study conducted by experts from the Universities of Luebeck, Germany and Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, researchers presented three crucial aspects of a healthy life: a balanced diet, regular physical activity and sufficient sleep to prevent chronic non-communicable diseases.
Healthy lifestyles involving nutritious foods, frequent exercise and adequate rest can greatly delay or avoid chronic diseases. Sleep is essential for maintaining overall health. People’s typical sleep hours are decreasing, while the prevalence of sleep disorders is increasing. Sleep is a strong determinant of appetite and food selection, with decreased sleep duration increasing hunger, appetite and food intake.
Most tumor cells establish unique metabolic profiles as the disease progresses, making them highly sensitive to changes in food sources and overall metabolic status. These effects have increased the interest of cancer researchers and oncologists in dietary treatments.
The study’s findings show that behavioral therapies support metabolic health by promoting lifestyle changes such as qualitative improvement in food consumption, increased physical activity, stress management and long-term behavioral changes.
These therapies help patients maintain a healthy metabolic state characterized by high insulin sensitivity and low susceptibility to metabolic disorders such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.
We note that chronic diseases include cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, kidney disease, lung disease, osteoporosis, depression, Alzheimer’s, dementia, arthritis and asthma.
