Three drones were shot down over Russia, flights were briefly restricted in Moscow

Three drones were shot down over Russia on Tuesday morning, BTA reported, citing TASS. Two of the machines were on the outskirts of Moscow, and the third – in the Kaluga region.

For technical reasons

There are no reports of injured people. Russian authorities believe the drones targeted the capital at different times. Two of them were detected above “New Moscow” – a residential area annexed to the city in 2012. Kaluga region is located about 200 km away. from the city.

A little later, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin accused Ukraine of carrying out an attack on the city. It also became clear that flights from Vnukovo Airport were temporarily restricted because of the drones.

At the moment, the attacks are repulsed by air defense forces. All detected drones are eliminatedSobyanin said.

The Federal Air Traffic Control Agency reported that flights from Vnukovo were limited due to “technical reasons”. A little later, the normal operation of the airport was restored.

The rest of Moscow’s airports are functioning normally.

Mandate

The mandate of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will be extended for another year, world agencies reported. The decision will be made officially on Tuesday.

Stoltenberg has been at the helm of the alliance since 2014. Before that, he was prime minister of Norway. His position over the last year has been entirely in support of Ukraine. A few months ago, Stoltenberg said he did not want his mandate to be extended, but member states have never agreed on a successor. A NATO summit is expected to take place in Vilnius next week. The main topic will be the war in Ukraine.

The EU will do everything in its power to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to justice over the war in Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
