19 people have been hospitalized after eating the relevant dietary supplement, “Remember Psyllium seed husks”, which is taken in capsules.
The company Orkla Care has recalled both this product and the dietary supplement “Remember Psyllium Mavebalance Basic”, which are also capsules.
The three who died with salmonella were already ill, and it is therefore difficult to say what was the cause of death, SSI points out.
All Husk products are recalled
The food group Orkla informs VG Thursday night that all six Husk products sold in Norway are recalled after the outbreak in Denmark.
– We can not have uncertainty about our brands, explains communications director Håkon Mageli.
There is no information that people in Norway have become ill, but Orkla asks Norwegians who have products at home to throw them away.
Most people who have become ill have eaten the capsules with seed pods, while the sick children have been infected by family members who have ingested them. This is stated by SSI epidemiologist Luise Müller.
– It is a serious and large outbreak with many sick, she says.
Müller encourages everyone to check if they have any of the relevant products at home. SSI is concerned that more people have become ill without the health authorities knowing about it.
Investigated the outbreak
– When we see a large proportion of deaths in this outbreak, it is because this is a natural medicine that is taken by people who are already vulnerable, Müller says.
SSI, together with the Danish Medicines Agency and the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, is investigating the salmonella outbreak. Common to the sick was that they had eaten the seed pods.
On Monday, Orkla in Norway withdrew the dietary supplement Remember Stomach Balance Fiber Basic. This now extends to all Husk products distributed in Norway. It includes the following:
