Three people died in a fire in a hospital near the Austrian capital Vienna, Austrian media report. Twenty people were slightly injured. About ninety patients have been evacuated.
The three victims are all patients, police say. It concerns two people aged 78 and 81. The identity of the third victim is not yet known.
The fire broke out on the third floor of the hospital in Mödling, a suburb of Vienna. The fire service received a report of the fire around 1 a.m.
Within a short time, the entire floor was full of smoke, writes the Wiener Zeitung. Many patients were surprised by the fire, says the fire service.
Ten fire departments with hundreds of firefighters were deployed to fight the fire. The fire was under control around 3 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
