Three people were found dead in the wildfires in Northern California. This brings the death toll to at least eleven.
Two people were found in one place. A third would have fled the flames and been found in a car.
Hundreds of homes and other buildings have been damaged or destroyed, the fire department said at a news conference. 64,000 people have been evacuated.
Many deaths are feared in Oregon. “This could be the greatest loss of life and property from wildfires in the history of our state,” said Governor Kate Brown. Five villages and hundreds of houses have been destroyed.
In neighboring Washington state, a larger area was burned down in one day than it normally would in an entire year.
