AP later informed that The man who opened fire at the University of Michigan killed a total of three people and wounded five others before shooting himself after an hours-long manhunt. Police said the gunman was dead early Tuesday, four hours after gunfire was reported first in the Berkey Hall academic building and later in the nearby MSU Union Student Center.
“What we experienced tonight is truly a nightmare,” said Chris Roseman, interim deputy chief of campus police.
Hundreds of officers searched the campus in East Lansing, about 90 miles northwest of Detroit, looking for the suspect, described by police as a short black man with red shoes, a jean jacket and a hat. The 43-year-old man was found outside the campus, after which he committed suicide with a firearm. He was not a student or employee of the university. An investigation is pending to determine the cause of the shooting.
