Three people have been killed in a shooting at a school in Michigan. Eight people were also injured, local authorities said. Two of the injured are undergoing surgery.
The suspect is a 15-year-old boy who was in the second grade of the school. He has been arrested, authorities said. The victims are a 16-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl. The shooter’s motive is unknown.
The shooting happened early afternoon at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, a town of 22,000, about 50 kilometers north of Detroit. There are about 1700 students at the school.
School closed
After the first calls to 911, police officers went to the school. There they were able to arrest the suspect. He was carrying a semi-automatic weapon with several cartridge holders.
The school was closed off from the outside world after the attack, so that police officers could search all the classrooms and other areas. Later, the students were taken to a nearby store, where they were picked up by their parents.
