Three dead and dozens injured in train accident in the Czech Republic

The accident happened when two trains collided near the village of Milavce, the newspaper reports Daily.

38 people are injured, and several of them are in critical condition, according to the news agency DPA which refers to the Czech news agency CTK. It has previously been reported that more than 50 people needed treatment after the accident.

Czech police first reported two dead, but the death toll has now risen to three, a police officer told the news agency Reuters. The dead are the drivers of the two trains, as well as a female passenger.

human error

Minister of Transport and Communications Karel Havlicek has stated on Twitter that an express train passed a signal in Domazlice and collided with another passenger train. He wrote that the situation was serious and that he should travel to the accident site.

Havlicek believes the accident was probably due to human failure as the driver of the express train did not stop at the signal.

It was the express train from Munich to Plzen and Prague that collided with a local train at 8 o’clock on Wednesday in Milavce near the Czech border with Germany, according to the Czech railway.

A major rescue operation was launched. Among other things, four helicopters were deployed to retrieve the injured.

Series of train accidents

During July, there were five train accidents in the Czech Republic, two of which were fatal, according to BRNO Daily.

The first happened in Karlovy Vary on July 7 when two trains collided, with two dead as a result.

Since then, there have been two more train collisions, a derailment and a collision with a truck. After the third accident, the railway promised to upgrade safety.
