The numerical peculiarity of this day led to it being chosen in Argentina to celebrate the twins. The occasion serves to mark the difference between twins – born from the division of the same ovum fertilized by a single sperm – and twins.
Although there are studies that indicate an increase in the proportion of multiple pregnancies (attributed to the increase in assisted fertilization treatments), it is estimated that the proportion of twin pregnancies is around 2%. Although there are places, such as the municipality of Cândido Godói, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, where this number is higher: there, one in 10 pregnancies is twins.
- Not so equal. Although they are called “identical twins” to differentiate them from those who are not, there are subtle differences in the genetic material of twins. Also, and even when they look the same, they have different identity. Twin brothers do not share fingerprints.
- In mirror. It is estimated that 25% of twins develop “in front” of their brother, so if one is left-handed it is likely that the other is right-handed, or if they have birthmarks, they appear in opposite places. The specialists also discovered that they tend to be sought in the womb.
- They share their language. Specialists point out that being so close they tend to invent words and create a language that links them when they are learning to speak.
These are some people who have twin or twin brothers. In many cases they are not famous, but they certainly must have signed more than one autograph on behalf of their siblings.
