Three children killed by lions in Tanzania

In Tanzania, three young children were killed by lions near the Ngorongoro nature reserve on Monday. The children were looking for lost cattle at the time, police reported on Thursday.

The children were 9 to 11 years old who had just returned from school to search for the animals near the protected nature reserve, police chief Justine Masejo said. This is where the lions attacked and killed three children, another child was injured.

Tanzania allows herders to live in national parks and to graze their livestock alongside wildlife. Police on Thursday called on surrounding communities to take precautions against ferocious beasts, especially when people ask their children to herd the livestock.

The Ngorongoro Crater, known worldwide for its landscapes and wildlife, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
