CHICAGO (October 7, 2024) – Chicago Fire FC announced today that three players have been called up to represent their respective national teams during the FIFA international match window in October. Forward Georgios Koutsias travels to join the Greece U-21 National Team, winger Ariel Lassiter joins the Costa Rica National Team and midfielder Sergio Oregel Jr. joins the United States U-20 Youth Men’s Team .
Koutsias joined the Greece Under-21 National Team in September, when the young team defeated the Faroe Islands 4-0 in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying. The Fire forward scored the team’s third goal in the match. Greece, which was placed in Group G of the qualifying tournament, will face Croatia at 11:00 am CT on Tuesday, October 15 at the Gradski Stadion Ivan Kušek Apaš in Koprivnica, Croatia. Greece is currently second in Group G, behind Portugal, and ahead of Croatia, Faroe Islands, Belarus and Andorra.
Lassiter and Costa Rica continue their streak in the Concacaf Nations League when they travel to face Suriname at 5:00 pm CT on Friday, October 11 at Flora Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname. The Ticos will host Guatemala at 7:00 pm CT on Tuesday, October 15 at the National Stadium in San José, Costa Rica. Lassiter opened his participation in the Nations League by scoring Costa Rica’s second goal in a 3-0 victory against Guadeloupe on Thursday, September 5 on Matchday 1 of the competition.
Oregel Jr. was called up by head coach Marko Mitrović for an international training camp from October 7-15 in Santiago, Chile. The United States U-20 will play friendly matches on October 12 and 15 in what is the first camp since the team qualified for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Oregel Jr. is one of six players in the squad of 22 players who have appeared in the four training camps for the year of birth 2005 until now in 2024.
Chicago will close out the 2024 MLS regular season on Decision Day when the Fire host Nashville SC at 5:00 pm CT on Saturday, October 19 at Soldier Field. The game will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass, and broadcast locally in Spanish on WRTO 1200 AM and in English on WLS 890 AM.
