In the Memmingen area and the district of Neu-Ulm, there were three escapes on February 21, 2022. The police are looking for witnesses to the accident on Autobahn 7 near Send.
Collision with crash barrier not reported in time
Yesterday, Monday, the Memmingen Autobahn Police reported two cases in which car drivers collided with a crash barrier, but failed to report the incident to the police immediately.
In the first case, a 40-year-old man drove his vehicle on the A7 motorway in the direction of Würzburg at around 5:30 a.m. and lost control shortly after the Illertissen junction due to a gust of wind and first crashed into the right-hand crash barrier, then the central crash barrier. Since, according to his statements, he was of the opinion that he had not caused any damage to others, he drove on. It was not until three hours later that he reported the incident to the highway police by telephone. Since the Vöhringen motorway maintenance department was able to determine damage to both crash barriers a short time later, criminal investigations into the 40-year-old’s unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident were initiated.
In the second case, the incident was reported to the police even later. A 35-year-old car driver was on the A7 towards Füssen between the Memmingen-Süd and Woringen junctions at around 6:45 a.m. Because a minibus in front of him started to slide on a slippery winter road, he had to brake and swerve to the left. In doing so, he touched the middle barrier. He reported the accident almost twelve hours later. However, a check by the Memmingen motorway maintenance department is still pending. If third-party damage has also occurred in this case, the 35-year-old must also be held criminally responsible. The amount of damage to his vehicle is around 2,000 euros. He was unharmed.
Escape from the accident also on the A 7 at Senden – information board damaged
After an accident on Monday afternoon on the Autobahn 7 near the Hittistetter Dreieck, the Günzburg Autobahn Police are looking for witnesses. A traffic sign, which was attached to a gantry above the road, was damaged. The sign was partially torn off and was hanging down. The accident may have been caused by a garbage truck or something similar when it drove in the direction of Würzburg. The lid of the container may have opened due to a gust of wind and turned upwards. When passing under the sign bridge, the open flap should have torn down the blue traffic sign. Both lanes had to be closed for about two hours to repair the damage. Northbound traffic could only be routed via the hard shoulder. The result was a backlog of around 8 kilometers. The Günzburg motorway police, telephone 08221/919-311, asks for information on the vehicle responsible and states the damage to property at around 20,000 euros.
