Three Bundesliga clubs start new cooperation for more diversity

Women in leadership positions are still a rarity in men’s football. An initiative wants to change that – and is cooperating with three first division teams.

The “Football can do more” initiative has been in existence for over a year. Prominent women in the football business are committed to more diversity on the executive floor in German football. Because currently there are hardly any managers and trainers at first and second division clubs in Germany.

The willingness of the Bundesliga clubs is growing. Three clubs even start a cooperation with “Football can do more”: Werder Bremen, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart. Other clubs are also interested in working together. In the coming months and years, workshops will be used to work on common goals in order to give more women the opportunity to work in the management of a Bundesliga club, for example.

Football can do more” was founded by a collective led by Katja Kraus (football official and ex-HSV board member), Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb (ex-referee), Almuth Schult (national player) and Claudia Neumann (football reporter). Thomas Hitzlsperger (manager and ex-professional), Axel Hellmann (CEO Eintracht Frankfurt) and Andreas Luthe (goalkeeper of 1. FC Kaiserslautern) are now also on the advisory board of the initiative.

Stuttgart’s CEO Alexander Wehrle: “We are a cooperation partner of this necessary initiative with full conviction and anticipation. Both as a club and through its academy, VfB Stuttgart would like to make its contribution to more diversity in football.”
