Italian authorities have arrested three Bulgarians carrying 6 tonnes of hashish on a sailing yacht, national television RAI reported. The market value of the drug is 13m euros.
She was captured at sea in Sicily during an operation by the Navy and the Financial Guard of Palermo. The yacht sailed under the American flag, and its crew consisted of three Bulgarians, whose names are not disclosed.
The yacht was spotted at sea by a Financial Guard aircraft engaged in control activities in the Western Mediterranean. After being seen, the yacht was monitored for 12 hours by a government patrol boat. After the Italian authorities received permission from the country whose flag the yacht was flying, it was inspected by the police and a patrol vessel reached it.
After the drugs were found, the yacht was transported to the port of Palermo, where the control activities of the organized crime investigation team of the Economic and Financial Police of the port of Palermo continued. The operation ended with the arrest of the three Bulgarians and the arrest of the yacht.
