A major gas leak was detected at the Cité Mage in Montluçon, this Wednesday, April 7, shortly after 5:30 p.m.
80 people evacuated, a security perimeter erected
Alerted, the Montluçon firefighters (around twenty, headed by Commander Manry) had to evacuate nearly 80 residents living in three buildings and several homes. A large security perimeter was set up and electricity was cut off by Enedis during the intervention. The emergency services were then able to observe a very large quantity of gas inside the buildings.

Also on site, a dozen police officers from the Montluçon police station ensured that the security perimeter was respected.
A pierced pipeline
“Since this morning, work has been taking place at the bottom of one of the buildings. A gas line was breached and we were all evacuated. We’ve been downstairs for about an hour and we’ve been waiting, ”explains a resident who puts it into perspective. “Of course it’s painful, but it does happen. Fortunately, we noticed it in time. ”
At around 8 p.m., the ventilation carried out by the firefighters was finished. The inhabitants, gathered outside, were then able to start returning to their homes.
