Three bears killed in Trøndelag – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

Three bears have been killed, the police say in a press release. The police have started an investigation and are working to clarify the course of events.

– One person has the status of a suspect in the case, police attorney Ole Andreas Aftret states in the press release.

Aftret informs to Address that the man who shot alerted the police around 5.20 pm on Sunday afternoon.

The message was that it was domestic reindeer that had been attacked by the bear. The emergency law provision in the Biodiversity Act states that game can be killed if domestic reindeer are attacked.

– We will now follow up on whether this is true, and make an assessment of the case, says Aftret.

It is not known if any of the reindeer died as a result of the alleged bear attack.

The police state that investigations are routinely started when protected predators are killed. Then the Norwegian Environment Agency and the state administrator are also notified.
