Three men have been arrested in the death of an 18-year-old found murdered on a southeast Oak Cliff highway last month.
Jamarion Mitchell and Daylin Webb, both 18, and Caus Frazier, 17, were booked into the Dallas County Jail last week on one count each of murder in the death of Jerryeon Gray.
On March 15, just before 3 am, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Cliff Heights Circle, near Interstate 35E and East Kirnwood Drive, where they found Gray with a gunshot wound.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, one of the defendants, Webb, told police that Frazier, the other suspect, called him earlier that day and said they had “a play,” but when Webb went to pick up Frazier, three other people got into the car. Webb said he was instructed to follow a second car into the neighborhood and park on the freeway service road.
Webb told police that when the passengers in the other car got out, he saw they had weapons but heard someone say “don’t shoot yet,” the affidavit says. Webb said he waited in the car.
The affidavit says that Surveillance video showed seven to 10 people parked along the interstate before getting out and firing at least 60 rounds from up to seven different firearms. The video confirmed that Webb did not get out of the car, according to the affidavit.
When the people in Webb’s car returned to flee, they said “’Huncho’ is on the ground” and “I think ‘Huncho’ was shot,” the affidavit reads, apparently referring to Gray, the fatality.
Mitchell, the other suspect, told police he was at his home at the time of the shooting, but police wrote in the affidavit that social media posts claimed Mitchell was the shooter. A witness recounted being told that a man with the nickname “Mitchell” had shot Gray “by accident,” the affidavit says.
Webb also told police that Mitchell was present during the shooting, according to the affidavit.
It was not immediately clear if there were any other fugitive suspects.
Mitchell, Webb and Frazier remain in custody, with bail set at $1 million each.
