Police have arrested at least one person in connection with the death of actor Matthew Perry from a ketamine overdose last year, U.S. media reported, citing law enforcement sources. A press conference is expected in Los Angeles later today to announce details of the ongoing investigation into the death of a Friends star.
According to TMZ, the website that covers American celebrities, at least one doctor has been arrested, along with several drug dealers who helped organize and deliver the ketamine to Perry. Several law enforcement agencies have executed search warrants and seized computers, phones and other electronic equipment to determine who supplied Perry with the anesthetic that knocked him unconscious last October and caused him to drown in his hot tub in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles.
The actor was undergoing ketamine therapy for anxiety and depression, but his last injection was a week and a half before his death, so the substance in his system was not the one prescribed by his doctor. According to TMZ, Perry had the same level of ketamine in his system that is used for general anesthesia in surgery.
Search warrants revealed text messages from dealers talking about Perry and the ketamine he wanted and what they were doing to get it to him. The messages also discussed the price the “Friends” actor would pay for the drug.
There are three arrests
Matthew Perry’s personal assistant, two doctors and several others have been indicted on charges of supplying the ketamine that killed the “Friends” star in October. In documents filed in federal court in California, prosecutors say the actor’s assistant and an acquaintance worked with two doctors and a drug dealer to supply thousands of dollars’ worth of ketamine to the Hollywood star, who had a history of substance abuse, in the weeks leading up to his death.
